Hafnia Receives Special Commendation from the International Maritime Organization for Global Gender Equality

Hafnia is proud to announce the reception of a special commendation from the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in recognition of our significant contributions to gender equality within the maritime industry. This special commendation underlines our commitment to fostering diversity, equity, belonging, and inclusion (DIBE) across all aspects of our operations and business strategy. The Gender Equality Award was announced on the 23rd of November 2023 at the IMO’s Council meeting. Despina Panayiotou Theodosiou was attributed for the overall Gender Equality Award for her leading role in WISTA International to which Hafnia extends our warm-felt congratulations for her well-deserved recognition.

 

Nominated by the Danish Shipowners Association and the Danish Maritime Authority, Hafnia emerged as a key nominee amongst almost 100 members in Denmark as a leader in promoting gender diversity under the visionary leadership of CEO, Mikael Skov. The special commendation received amongst across global submissions from Maritime Authorities worldwide acknowledges our continuous efforts to address gender disparities in the maritime sector through a range of impactful initiatives.

 

In winning this award, notable achievements from Hafnia that were underlined include initiatives such as the Maritime DEI Lab, the Women in Maritime Lab, Maternity Leave Coverage for Seafarers, the Maritime Culture Lab, sponsorship of female ratings in India, and a more diversified talent pipeline for cadets through our collaboration with the Regional Maritime University in Ghana.
