Hafnia Commemorates the Regional Maritime University’s Graduation 2023

Following Hafnia’s announcement of our partnership with the Regional Maritime University in Ghana (RMU) – we were honored to be part of the RMU annual graduation ceremony, which coincided with the 65th anniversary of this esteemed educational institution.

 

19 of the 444 maritime students who graduated with either bachelor’s or master’s degrees will join Hafnia vessels permanently – with seven of these students receiving a Bachelor’s in marine engineering, eight in Nautical Science, three in Electrical Engineering, with one student receiving a diploma in Marine Electrical and Electronic Systems.

 

Represented by Mikkel Boesen, VP (Head of Fleet), and Maria Javellana, GM (Technical), Hafnia was pleased to attend the ceremony to witness our future crew members completing their academic certification. During the ceremony, Maria and Mikkel awarded selected candidates with certificates of excellence and announced its sponsorship of four further students who were recognized in their academic programs, with further recognition of one member of the faculty for his exemplary contributions towards the students and university.

 

The graduation ceremony included esteemed guests: Hon. Jewel Cianeh Taylor as the Guest of Honor (Vice President of Liberia); Professor Pierre Gomez as the Special Guest of Honor (Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science & Technology Republic of the Gambia);  Hon. Ebrima Sillah, (Chancellor and Chairman of Board of Governors &  Minister of Transport, Works and Infrastructure, Republic of the Gambia); Honorable members of the RMU Board of Governors (Hon. Jean Ernest Massena Ngalle Bihehe- Republic of Cameroon; Hon. Kwaku Ofori Asiamah – Republic of Ghana; Hon. Lenn Eugene Nagbe- Republic of Liberia; Amb. Alhaji Fanday Turay- Republic of Sierra Leone; Dr. Paul Adalikwu- Secretary General, MOWCA and Dr. Jethro W. Brooks Jnr. – Ag. Vice Chancellor) and other relevant heads of each Region and included other representatives from other Maritime companies.

 

During the ceremony, Hafnia received a special mention for our continuing support of RMU’s maritime students and its facilities. The special mention also included Hafnia’s commitment to furthering diversity amongst its workforce – where 19 female graduates are already aboard our respective vessels, with a strong commitment to hiring cadets from RMU and in our further collaboration in the development of RMU’s maritime curriculum and program.

 

Hafnia congratulates the graduating class and especially our current and future crew members on this special achievement. We are proud to be growing our talent pipeline across the globe and to be setting our foundation in the African continent in supporting the development and growth of its seafarers.
