Suneha Gadpande, HSEQ and Marine Superintendent at Hafnia recently spoke at the Nautical Institute Annual Conference in Singapore, where she participated in a panel discussion alongside industry peers Capt. Hari Subramaniam and Capt. Yves Vandenborn FNI.
In her remarks during the panel, Suneha reflected on the impact that her experiences, particularly as a mother, have had on her professional outlook, highlighting the importance of addressing personal well-being in tandem with professional responsibilities. This insight, she emphasized, is crucial for the industry to support within the maritime sector.
A focal point of Suneha’s participation centered around Hafnia’s efforts around women seafarers. Suneha discussed Hafnia’s commitment to advancing gender diversity through its Culture Labs, noting that women comprise 8%-10% of Hafnia’s crew, compared to an industry average of just 2%. Suneha showcased Hafnia’s proactive efforts to create a supportive environment for women to excel and called on the broader maritime industry to adopt similar practices. Suneha also highlighted the strategic importance of diversity and inclusion, not just as a matter of fairness, but as essential to meeting the future demands of the industry.
