Pankaj Porwal, General Manager (Project, Fleet Sustainability), served as a speaker at the Maritime Decarbonization Conference Asia held on April 3rd in Singapore.
Pankaj participated as a key speaker on the panel titled “Investing in Decarbonization Measures without the Certainty of ROI: Overcoming the Barriers.” During the session, Pankaj engaged in discussions with fellow panelists from CMA CGM, DNV, and AAL Shipping, addressing various significant topics.
These topics encompassed shared experiences in determining the financial responsibility for major decarbonization investments, and strategies for evaluating the return on investment considering factors such as the Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII), Fuel EU Maritime, and the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS). Additionally, the discussions delved into balancing the imperative to invest in meeting sustainability targets with the associated risks of adopting new technologies, insights on financing or funding major decarbonization initiatives, diverse approaches to selecting, testing, and implementing new technologies to mitigate investment risks, and considerations regarding the penalties for being early adopters in the industry.
