Pankaj Porwal, GM, Fleet Sustainability, was a panel speaker at the 2026 APM Conference in Singapore.
Pankaj participated as a panel speaker on the topic titled “Ageing Vessels at a Crossroads – Retrofit, Rebuild or Recycle.” The session was moderated by Anthonie Versluis, Head of Commerce at Asia-Pacific, Marine and Transport Business Solutions (MTBS).
During the session, the panel discussed the viability of retrofitting older vessels to meet tightening IMO and regional emissions standards, and examined the key considerations in choosing whether to extend a vessel’s life, invest in newbuilds, or retire ships.
The discussions also addressed the readiness of global and regional recycling industries to handle a potential increase in end-of-life vessels responsibly, and the role that regulators and financiers should play in incentivizing responsible fleet renewal.
