Matias Engel from the Hafnia Bunkers team was a panel speaker at the International Bunker Industry Associations (IBIA) Bunker conference taking place in Houston between the 15-17 November.
Forming part of the Buyers panel “Coping with the present, planning for the future”, – Matias together with the other panelists, discussed and debated how the shipping industry has been coping with high bunker prices amidst higher rates and their predicted longevity. Other topics included the costs of future fuels, how owners will get ready for this energy transition and the various regulatory tools required to bring about net-zero shipping. Various challenges from the bunker supplier side were also discussed which covered the main concerns the shipping industry have for suppliers and whether bunker licensing programs can improve the situation. During the panel, Matias also highlighted the importance of cooperation across the various nodes in the supply chain and how open communication, cooperation and renewed focus on procurement strategy is paramount to ensure a connection between key stakeholders and proper relationship management in the supply chain affecting present and future bunker fuel types.
