Maria Javellana, GM (Head of Fleet) was a featured speaker at COP29 Nigeria, participating in the virtual session titled “Unlocking Economic Opportunities for Africa’s Marine and Blue Economy: Towards Advancing a Just and Zero-Emissions Transition.”
During the panel, Maria shared insights on how industry stakeholders can support Africa’s maritime workforce in preparing for zero-emissions shipping. She also discussed the critical role of training institutions in equipping seafarers with the skills needed for handling innovative technologies and fuels, such as ammonia and methanol, and highlighted the importance of inclusivity in this transition. Maria also additionally discussed the importance of uplifting and addressing the basic needs of seafarers while in university, and how Hafnia has played an important role in developing student skills and knowledge in shipping. Maria’s participation in this webinar supports Hafnia’s commitment to diversity and sustainability in shipping while advocating for actions for African seafarers.
