Maria Kristina B. Javellana, GM (Head of Fleet at Hafnia) was a speaker at a Seatrade Maritime Logistics Middle East event held at the Dubai World Trade Centre. During the event, Maria formed part of a panel discussion entitled “Smart Maritime Technologies Gliding Towards a Sustainable Future.”
During the panel, Maria shared critical insights into the integration of smart technologies onboard vessels, highlighting their essential role in enhancing operational efficiency, crew safety, and environmental sustainability. She emphasized that technological adoption must go hand-in-hand with crew education and competence, ensuring that human and digital systems evolve together.
The panel also discussed and debated one of Maritime’s most pressing challenges: managing big data and integrating diverse technologies onboard without redundancy – calling for greater collaboration amongst industry stakeholders to accelerate the adoption of resilient, eco-conscious maritime practices and to streamline data collection in a secure, effective manner.
