Hafnia’s Singapore office had the pleasure of hosting Vivek Menon (Associate Director, Global Operations & Industry Engagement at The Maritime Anti-Corruption Network) from the Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN), on October 27th, 2023. During his visit, Vivek discussed MACN’s mission, the significance of combating bribery and corruption, the collaborative efforts between MACN and Hafnia, and the ways in which members can actively engage in the anti-bribery and -corruption agenda.
Established in 2011, MACN is dedicated to fostering an industry that is free from corruption. With a membership of over 190 maritime companies, MACN diligently works towards eradicating all forms of corruption within the sector.
Adhering to the “Reject, Report, Record” approach, MACN encourages its members to share knowledge and insights within the maritime industry. This collaborative effort enables the analysis of corruption trends, engagement with governments, and collective action to combat corruption.
Since its inception, reported incidents of corruption and bribery have increased, indicating a growing willingness among vessels to reject and report such situations. Through partnerships with esteemed organizations like the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the International Chamber of Shipping, and other prominent associations, MACN moves closer to achieving its mission of raising awareness about industry challenges, collaborating with governments, NGOs, and civil society to identify and mitigate the root causes of corruption, and fostering a culture of integrity within the maritime community.
Hafnia is very happy and proud to be a part of this network, and we stand together with our maritime colleagues in saying no to corruption and bribery.
