Jan Simon, VP, Head of Digital and Innovation recently took part in ShipCon 2026, hosted by YoungShip Denmark in Copenhagen from 16 -18 June.
The conference aimed to bring together the next generation of maritime professionals together with industry leaders, decision-makers, and innovators for three days of sharp conversations on profitability, market dynamics, decarbonization, regulation, and the future of shipping.
Representing Hafnia, Jan Simon joined the panel “AI at Sea: How Smart Systems Are Changing Shipping” – exploring how AI is moving from isolated digital pilots to embedded decision support across the voyage cycle, from routing and machinery maintenance to fuel management and real-time disruption handling.
The discussion highlighted the clear value case for AI in shipping such as better predictions, faster responses, and more consistent execution, translating into lower costs, fewer incidents, and measurable emissions reductions when optimised across fleets rather than ship-by-ship.
