Jan Simon: Speaker at Singapore Maritime Week 2026 on AI-driven Transformation in Shipping

Jan Simon, VP IT & Digital at Hafnia, spoke at the SMU Maritime Thought Leadership Conference during Singapore Maritime Week 2026, contributing to discussions on how artificial intelligence is reshaping the maritime industry.

The session, titled “Stakeholder Integration: Towards a Future Maritime Ecosystem Empowered by AI”, was held on 23 April at the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre as part of the SMRC x MTEC/ICMASS Conference 2026. Bringing together industry leaders, academics, and policymakers, the forum focused on the implications of increasing digitalization and stakeholder integration across the maritime ecosystem.

Participating in the Theme 1: AI Driven Transformations panel, Jan Simon highlighted a key shift facing the industry: “We don’t have a data problem in shipping anymore. We have a decision problem. And that’s exactly where AI will either create real value or introduce real risk.”

The session provided a platform to explore how AI is being applied in practice across shipping, moving beyond conceptual discussions to implementation. It also examined how AI-driven decision-making is transforming internal processes, stakeholder interactions, and the broader dynamics of the maritime sector.

The conference is part of Singapore Maritime Week 2026, themed “Smart Ships. Secure Seas. Sustainable Futures.” and serves as a key platform for advancing dialogue on innovation and the future of global shipping.
