Hafnia wins Danish Shipping Diversity Award 2022 & Concludes 2022 Maritime DEI Lab

Hafnia is pleased to announce that, following its shortlisted place alongside DFDS, Norden and Maersk Tankers, it has won Danish Shipping’s newly launched Diversity Award.

Hafnia won the award for its revolutionary Maritime Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Lab, which has just concluded its second edition. The lab is an open competition for interested participants (individuals, institutions, companies, students etc.) who are invited to submit their ideas on addressing DEI in the maritime industry. Shortlisted teams participated in the innovation lab to hone their pitches in preparation for a ‘Dragon’s Den’ session with industry leaders. The winning team and their idea will be brought to life with collaboration and funding from the partner organizations involved, which this year includes Anglo American, RightShip, Rio Tinto, Thome Group, and Wilhelmsen. Further communications of the 2022 edition and the winning idea from the 2020 edition can be read here.

On winning the award, Hafnia’s CEO Mikael Skov and Mia Krogslund Jørgensen (Vice President), Head of People, Culture and Strategy celebrate this monumental day and the proactiveness of all key stakeholders involved in this year’s Maritime DEI lab. “Progress through collaboration and a collective approach to address change is the tangibility we at Hafnia have been pushing for. We should all continue to address the challenges at an organizational level, but when we come together and lead the change in the industry, it becomes a game changer.  We congratulate our colleagues leading this initiative, especially Shanker Pillai (Hafnia’s Head of Innovation) and Richard Holdsworth (Founder, V-Box), who have been the true drivers of this award-winning initiative.”

Shanker Pillai continues: “Coincidentally, today marks the final day of the 2022 Maritime DEI Lab. What is really unique is that we are using innovation AND collaboration to drive tangible outcomes on complex topics such as DEI. We received a vast number of submissions from all over the world, from those onshore and at sea. Thank you to everyone who participated. All your contributions make a difference to evolving the maritime reality. Thanks also to the partners without whom this program wouldn’t have been a reality”

Jury member and Director of Labor Market, Recruitment and Training at Danish Shipping, Anne Windfeldt Trolle commends Hafnia and the Maritime DEI Lab as “An innovative project that Hafnia has created. It involves employees in a very broad sense both at sea and on land and is not just rooted in a small circle, and it was created in collaboration with several shipping companies, so good ideas have the potential to reach even further,”.

Danish Shipping is an interest organization that represents Denmark’s shipping industry. It counts over 90 shipping and offshore companies that have a relation to Denmark. It was founded in 1884 and has since been the core of the Danish shipping industry. The Diversity Award, newly launched in 2022, is aimed to shine a spotlight on places in the industry where, “there is a serious and innovative approach in relation to diversity,”
