The Regional Maritime University (RMU) recently held its 20th Congregation graduation ceremony marking the end of years of study for hundreds of cadets.
Hafnia’s ties with RMU date back to March 2023, when the two signed a Memorandum of Understanding to bring top cadets from West Africa aboard Hafnia vessels for their cadetships and first roles at sea. Since then, the partnership has grown through guest lectures, mentoring, and a steady pipeline of graduates joining the fleet.
Of the 391 graduates in 2026, 25 cadets have been shortlisted by Hafnia and Marlin Marine Crewing Services (the crewing company managing crewing for Hafnia in Ghana) – in which the cadets are set to join Hafnia vessels following the graduation.
During the graduation ceremony, Hafnia also supported three awards for academic excellence at this year’s ceremony. Each recipient received a monetary prize, Hafnia Certificate of Excellence, alongside confirmations of commencing their professional careers aboard Hafnia vessels.
Congratulations to the award recipients: Abayateye Desmond – Best in Navigation (BSc Nautical Science), Akpakpli Marcellina Awovi – Best in Marine Electrical and Electronic Systems III (BSc Marine Electrical and Electronic Engineering) and Agyeman Dorothy Nana Akua Darkua – Best in Marine Engineering (BSc Marine Engineering)
