Hafnia and OSM / Thome recently brought together crew and maritime stakeholders for its bi-annual OSM/Thome Crew Conference in Split, – a week centred on knowledge-sharing and operational priorities across the Hafnia fleet.
A total of 110 participants attended, including maritime partners, senior crew from Hafnia vessels, cadets, junior officers and onshore team members from both Hafnia and OSM / Thome. The conference also welcomed honorary guests Sony-Love Amarboye Oko and Samuel Ofori from the Ghanian Maritime Authority underlining Hafnia’s continued ties with Ghana as a strategic hub for maritime education and training.
The first day focused on fleet performance, current priorities and the operational issues crews are dealing with onboard. After opening remarks and a CEO address, the program moved into a fleet performance reflection and a review of expectations and focus areas for 2026. Participants also received updates on Hafnia projects, followed by a broader company update.
The afternoon sessions shifted to compliance, inspections and crew development. One part of the agenda looked at port state inspections, including the root cause analysis of detentions and the consequences that follow, while another offered the port authority perspective on PSC inspections. Crew development was also a clear theme, with sessions on the cadet program, leadership, appraisal system progress, and the Hafnia IIL Educational Program. The day concluded with a session on ship inspections and an evening dinner that included a gala night, loyalty award presentation and lucky dip.
Day two focused on leadership, conduct, commercial awareness and crew-related matters. Sessions covered cyber security policy updates and anti-bribery and anti-corruption through the MACN update, before moving into leadership at sea through both a presentation and workshop format. Later in the day, participants discussed purchasing processes, including requisitions, logistics and spares, followed by a commercial update from Hafnia’s team. Crew-related topics remained high on the agenda, with a dedicated session on crewing matters, before closing discussions on crisis communications and social media, including challenges and best practices for seafarers and crew.
Following the official conference days, participants took part in a practical chemical and engine workshop. This hands-on session focused on chemical cargo handling and safety procedures allowing crews to work through live scenarios and reinforce best practices in an applied setting. The engine workshop session also focused on the technical optimization of vessel performance, newly installed equipment and systems onboard, including hands on experience on the Hafnia system applications onboard.
Thank you to everyone who participated and to OSM / Thome for their hospitality.
