Each year, Hafnia observes Anti-Corruption Day (IACD) on the 9th of December, an annual event initiated following the ratification of the United Nations Convention of corruption. As a leading maritime organization, Hafnia takes pride in actively supporting the fight against maritime, recognizing the vital connection between anti-corruption efforts, peace, security, and development.
Against corruption, all Hafnia employees, both onshore and at sea, undergo rigorous training on ethical behavior and fair dealing whilst ongoing collaboration with suppliers, customers, and industry stakeholders requires adherence to the highest integrity standards, with strict prohibitions against giving or receiving gifts, monetary favors, or hospitality aimed at influencing business decisions. Stringent checks are in place to record and report any such incidents according to company guidelines.
Furthermore, Hafnia is a proud member of the Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN), a collective vision striving for zero corruption in the maritime industry. MACN collaborates with key stakeholders, including governments and international organizations like the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), to identify and mitigate the root causes of corruption in the industry. As a member, Hafnia actively promotes strong corporate practices against bribes, facilitation payments, and other forms of corruption, leaning on MACN for best practices and support in problem solving around incidences.
To mark awareness of Anti-Corruption day, 2023, onshore teams and seafaring teams engaged in moderated discussions around the topic which included areas we operate in that are susceptible to corruption, the course of action when shore personnel propose an exchange of foods for facilitation of services and why anti-corruption is crucial. Teams were also encouraged to re-watch informational videos produced by MACN in 2022 to contribute to these constructive and informative discussions. A video of our stance on production was produced in collaboration between Hafnia shore and at sea teams and MACN.
