Hafnia Enhances Fleet Performance with Extensive Dry Docking Completed on 13 Vessels

In the first half of 2025, Hafnia has successfully completed a broad scope of dry docking, special surveys, and upgrade works across thirteen vessels, reaffirming our commitment to safe operations, regulatory excellence, and long-term fleet performance.

Repairs and enhancements were carried out as required per vessel – across the following vessels: the Hafnia Amber, Hafnia Falcon, Hafnia Almandine, Hafnia Valentino, Hafnia Viridian, Hafnia Nordica, Hafnia Andesine, Hafnia Bering, Hafnia Aventurine, Hafnia Ametrine, Hafnia Aquamarine, Hafnia Amethyst, and Hafnia Aronaldo.

These projects included:

  • Special Surveys and Class Compliance: Vessels underwent Special Renewal Surveys in collaboration with classification societies such as ABS, DNV, and Lloyd’s Register. The surveys ensured full regulatory compliance and operational readiness.
  • Condition Assessment Programme (CAP): For tankers approaching their 15th year of service, CAP Hull and Machinery Surveys were conducted during third Special Surveys. Several vessels attained the highest CAP 1 rating, a testament to their structural integrity and maintenance standards.
  • Cargo Tank Coating & Life Extension: All chemical vessels received full or partial recoating of cargo oil tanks with Advanced Polymer Coatings MarineLine systems, preserving tank integrity, enhancing safety, and preparing the vessels for aggressive/versatile cargo operations.
  • Chemical Vessel Operational Upgrades: New stainless steel common, nitrogen and tank washing lines installed on all 18 Handy vessels with a dehumidifier for tank ventilation and the installation of an extra fixed tank washing machine.
  • Hull and Propeller Efficiency Measures: The vessels benefited from the application of high-performance silicon-based hull coatings from industry leaders such as Hempel, Seacoat, and Jotun. To ensure compliance with the IMO’s Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI) and Carbon Intensity Index (CII) measures, innovation works introduced includes Propeller enhancements with graphene coatings, energy saving Propeller Boss Cap Fin (PBCF)/Wartsila EnergoProFin that rotate together with the propeller which provides fuel savings  and the installation of Mewis Ducts/Wartsila EnergoFlow to reduce energy loss from cavitation and wake turbulence improving fuel efficiency and reducing emissions.
  • Ballast Water Treatment Systems (BWTS): Alfa Laval BWTS units have been installed to promote environmentally sound ballast water management and minimize the spread of invasive marine species.
  • Cargo Oil Tank (COT) Heating Coil Repairs: Steam heating coil systems in COTs were repaired to improve cargo temperature control and enhance commercial flexibility across cargo grades.
  • Innovative Application Techniques: Notably, robotic hull painting systems (“Elephant”) were employed at IMC Zhoushan Shipyard on select vessels ensuring uniform coating application, improved safety, and reduced time in dock. We also completed Hempel ‘s Silicone project on the Hafnia Viridian with Hempel’s new coating technology Air-Assisted Airless application. The trial was successful, and achieved the desired results, i.e. Less paint loss from overspray combined with higher DFT on surface, more consistent DFT distribution and lower AHR  applied with air-assisted airless compared to airless spray application.

All dockings were completed safely, with zero incidents reported – a great testament to the collaboration between the shipboard teams, technical management partners, and shipyard personnel.

These dry-docking milestones mark Hafnia’s continued investment in operational reliability and sustainability. With renewed hulls, upgraded systems, and refreshed coatings, our fleet is well-prepared to meet the dynamic demands of global shipping while advancing our long-term efficiency goals.

As of June 2025, seven more vessels – the Hafnia Axinite, Hafnia Ammolite, Hafnia Azurite Hafnia Violette, Hafnia Australia,  Hafnia Africa, Hafnia Magellan will undergo drydocking.
