Eric Bea, Projects and Fleet Sustainability, represented Hafnia at a panel discussion hosted by the Singapore Shipping Association, as part of its annual Bunkering Community Forum.
The session, titled “Carbon Pricing, Liability, and Global Rules in Shipping’s Decarbonisation,” addressed the adoption of carbon pricing regimes affecting international shipping, and the strategic choices facing our industry between now and 2050 to achieve net zero emissions.
The panel included Dr Sanjay Kuttan (Kai Gaia International Advisory), Mr Partha Das (Lloyd’s Register), Ms Tan Wan Jing (Gard Singapore), and Ms Mahua Mitra (Argus Media), where together they discussed important topics such as the green transition, the trends and prospects for alternative fuels such as biofuels, LNG, methanol, and ammonia, and potential liability and risk management issues arising from the adoption of these future fuels.
Eric highlighted Hafnia’s approach to decarbonization, emissions data management, and our continuing efforts to remain in alignment with the IMO’s net zero by 2050 target. In addition, he further shared that decarbonization is a shared effort amongst all stakeholders, including shipowners, charterers, and states, and highlighted the potential of Just-In-Time shipping to reduce fuel consumptions and emissions.
The panel concluded with an urgent call for more dialogue amongst all stakeholders on the way forward for the decarbonization of our industry.
