Representatives from Hafnia recently participated in the Singapore Registry of Ships (SRS) Forum 2025, hosted by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA). The annual forum brings together key members of the maritime community to discuss industry developments, review the performance of the SRS fleet, and share new initiatives focused on safety, security, and talent development within the maritime sector.
During the event, Clint Bout, GM (Head of Marine) delivered an insightful presentation on the threat landscape across the Straits of Malacca and Singapore, highlighting Hafnia’s proactive approach to maritime security. He also shared the extracted Hafnia Cougar Voyage Data Recorder emphasizing the commendable actions of the Hafnia Cougar crew, who demonstrated vigilance and professionalism across an incident.
The Hafnia Cougar’s watchkeepers observed a suspicious boat approaching another vessel and promptly issued a warning over VHF Channel 73 to alert the vessel being approached by the suspicious boat. The VTIS West also intercepted the transmission and relayed the same warning, ensuring the vessel kept a good anti-piracy watch. This timely communication helped the vessel avoid a potential boarding attempt, underlining the important role seafarers play in maintaining maritime safety and deterring criminal activity at sea.
Clint’s presentation elaborated upon how the risks of sea robbery can be significantly reduced when all mariners look out for one another and what it means to be “SOMS Secure” – a shared Neighbourhood Watch at Sea mindset, where ships and shore work together to form a united shield. On conclusion of the presentation, a video was showcased on Hafnia’s best practices and safety measures when transiting through high-risk areas.
